About the company:
A fast growing, ambitious, medium sized robotics company with the goal of becoming a One-Stop Shop for applications and tooling of industrial robots. It was named a soonicorn company, i.e. a startup expected to hit a 100 million USD evaluation soon. Its portfolio includes robot vision, grippers, analytics, force sensors, a sander, and a screwdriver. All the products are integrated with a wide variety of industrial/collaborative robots. The R&D department is quite small, the work is highly dynamic. OnRobot A/S acquired my previous company, Blue Workforce A/S.

About the company:
An extremely ambitious robotics startup, acquired by OnRobot A/S. Before its acquisition, the R&D department consisted of 14 people. The goal of Blue Workforce A/S was to democratize robotics by offering cheap, scalable, easy to setup pick and place solutions for small and medium sized companies. The main customers were bakeries, farms, secondary packaging companies. The company’s portfolio included:

  • A cheap and fast 4-arm parallel robot.
  • An easy-to-setup, flexible vision system with a visual programming interface, mainly created for tracking and classifying objects on a conveyor belt.
  • A distributed, ROS inspired solution for connecting the nodes: robots, belt encoders, digital twin, computer vision system, 3rd party I/Os.
  • A robot simulation platform derived from the V-Rep robot simulator. Easy setup, capable of viability testing, digital twin of the real robot.
  • A soft, compliant gripper.

My responsibilities:

  • Creation of a flexible, user friendly, robust, visually programmable vision system for a wide range of pick and place applications, using the Intel RealSense D415 3D camera. Applications included:
    • Detection of strawberries in a farm setting. Setting the trajectory for the removal of strawberries
    • Automatic planting through detection and tracking of holes in plant pots on a conveyor belt.
    • Quality check for pastries and sushi plates assembled by the robot.
  • Automated data collection, data labeling, data augmentation solution for machine learning datasets. Utilization of transfer learning to fit YOLO v2 to the gathered data.
  • Visualization of the robot’s trajectory through Microsoft HoloLens AR.
  • Extension of the parallel robot’s library of trajectories.
  • Synchronization of distributed system components.
  • Creation of bash scripts for packaging and automatic deployment.
